Pigmentation or Dark spots. Causes and Treatments
Pigmentation is condition in which the skin appears darker than normal. If you have brown patches, you have what’s known as hyper-pigmentation. Excessive production of melanin is responsible for this condition. Hyperpigmentation can occur on almost any part of the body, including the face, neck, hands, arms and legs.
Increased levels of melanin, the skin pigment that produces colour. It could be the result of injury, inflammation, sun damage or hormonal changes. Birthmarks and freckles are a different type of pigmentation, which is genetically determined.
